About Jasmine

She’s Awesome. Really, what more do you need to know?

OK, OK…..here’s more.

For those of you that know Jasmine, she excels at kicking butt and taking names. For the rest of us, here are just a few facts about Jasmine:

  • Jasmine can count to infiniti.
  • Jasmine can touch MC Hammer.
  • When the Boogey Man goes to bed, he checks under his bed for Jasmine.
  • When Jasmine does a push-up, she stays still and the Earth moves to her.
  • Jasmine can divide by zero.

Wait, those are Chuck Norris facts. Really, let’s talk about Jasmine now.

Jasmine was born in the mean streets of Cincinnati, where she spent the first seven years of her life. While she usually identifies herself as an Indianan, these early Ohio roots are the reasons that Jasmine thinks of herself as a Reds fan.

After Cincinnati, Jasmine’s parents Jim and Jean moved the family to Jeffersonville, Indiana, just outside of Louisville, Kentucky. In Indiana, she fell in love with the great outdoors, where she could often be found camping, climbing, swimming, and doing other scouting activities. These early adventures in her home state set the stage for Jasmine’s globe trotting future.

Jasmine then left Jeffersonville to attend Indiana University (IU). She took her love of the outdoors to the next step when she got her degree in Recreation and Parks Management. It was also during her time at IU that she developed a deep love for Hoosier basketball. (She currently has season tickets even though she lives 500 miles away!) Jasmine’s departure from IU upon graduation was so heart-breaking to the school, that Bobby Knight got himself fired because he could not go on coaching at IU without Jasmine.

After college, Jasmine moved to Germany where she worked for Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) at Bad Aibling Station in Germany. She ran a teen center for children of military troops for three years. Deciding that Germany was too pedestrian for her, she became the events coordinator at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo. There she hosted entertainers and other dignitaries. She even got a hug from Bill Clinton!

After returning the to the United States in 2005, she lived in Southern California for a short time as a logistics manager for Target. She then headed East to Washington, DC, to work for her hometown Congressman.

When she moved to Washington DC in 2006, she wanted to meet new people, so she learned to SCUBA dive and trained for her very first marathon. In less than a year in Washington, she was a certified advanced diver and had run the Marine Corp Marathon (Hoo-rah!).

After leaving the Hill, Jasmine stayed with her Indiana roots and went to work as an event planner for Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Company. Working for the International Governmental Affairs office in DC, she makes event after event happen for international Lilly executives and always gets the job done. Just ask the folks at the Brazilian Consulate.

In 2007, she was asked to play softball with the Natural Disasters. Despite not enjoying softball and harboring a deep fear for pop flyballs, Jasmine signed up to play because she could not pass up the opportunity to socialize with more new people. With weekly Thursday night games on the National Mall, Jasmine quickly turned her attention to the stunning Captain of her softball team. Within a few months, he was hers. When Jasmine wants something, she goes after it.
